I am from Las Vegas. I attended college at Brigham Young University-Idaho. This is my second year teaching 4th. I have a one-year-old puppy named Moose. She and I enjoy the outdoors, all kinds of sports, although soccer is our favorite, and spending time with our family and friends. I have a passion for learning and making it fun in the process!
Classroom management is the keystone to any classroom. In our classroom we have a variety of classroom management tools. We will be using a Clip Chart to keep track of how we are doing throughout the day. At the end of each day we will record in our data binders how we did using the clip chart. Some days students will bring home a slip to share with you how they did on our chart and why.
I believe that students work best in an environment where they feel they are a part of the community and “rule” making process. The first week of school will be a great time for us to create some rules, procedures, and signals as a class, that we will use throughout the year! And if at any time something isn’t working for us we can always revisit and make amendments to our Classroom Constitution! This year as a school we will also be implementing IRON - Integrity, Respect, Ownership, and Now (Urgency). This will be used throughout the entire school as well as in our classroom! Students will have the opportunity to have their IRON card punched and be rewarded for acting on these values.
There is no other grade quite like 4th grade. This year we will be exploring the differences of Utah’s past and present as well as Utah’s history. We will be having a county project which will help us learn more about Utah! We will also discover and build understanding of Utah’s environments including weather, the water cycle, rocks, fossils, soils, and plants and animals. In math we will stretch our knowledge by broadening our skills in regrouping, long division, double digit multiplication, place value skills, and MORE! In language arts and writing we will have the opportunity to learn about different cultures through our reading and writing. To solidify our knowledge we will be integrating writing with all of our other key subjects. We will learn how to write opinion pieces, persuasive essays, personal narratives, informative essays, poetry and more. We will strive to obtain the 25 book challenge personally, and as a class read stories and passages to dig deeper to help us understand and comprehend what we are reading.
